About Me
Have you heard that sitting is the new disease? Research has proven and Doctors are now aware that sitting all day can seriously wreck havoc with our health. Just being aware of this is a step in the right direction for better self care. How do you do this when you are at work or commuting where getting up and doing a quick workout isn't an option? You can find ways to move even if you must sit for long periods of time.
*Practice standing up & sitting down several times throughout your day. If you have a standing desk, alternate with sitting down to get more movement. Standing over time can be just as bad.
*Sit above your chair in the classic yoga 'chair' pose which is excellent for your hamstrings, quads and glute muscles.
*If stuck in your seat on a flight, try flexing your feet up & down and rotating your feet in circles. Another good option is with feet flat on the floor lift your feet up on their tippy toes and than back down again. Repeat this as often as you'd like to keep your blood circulating in your lower extremities.
The internet has many options so be sure & search it up and find those that suit your fancy. The key is to do the ones that you will actually do!
A great way to get moving is to invite some friends or office mates to join you on a 'movement' brake where you can go on a quick brisk walk together, have a stretching session or even do some HIT (high intensity training) jumping jacks for 20 second intervals!
When our daughter participated in dance competitions which involved sitting for long periods of time, we would sneak off to the hotel gym and do a quick 5-15 minute workout session or take a brisk walk outside. This is so much better than another cup of coffee to get us feeling revived & refreshed. So the next time you're thinking of drinking another caffeinated beverage or grabbing a processed sweet snack, get your body moving instead & rake note how much better you feel. It can be like I mentioned above as short as several 20 second HIT sessions in your home, at work or wherever you find yourself sitting over an hour. You may get some odd stares but hey have some fun! Warning! You will embarrass your teens but so what. You're setting a positive example:-)
The researh is out and lack of movement has been attributed to several serious life threatening diseases. It's a matter of choice. Move or Get Sick.
So what are you waiting for?

About Me
My passion about health started in my teens when I first hand saw the effects of how illness can wreck havoc in a family growing up with parents who had serious health issues. I too struggled with losing weight & developed an eating disorder that I was able to heal by educating myself on healthier habits. Itās amazing what our bodies can do when we learn to take care of them like God intended. These experiences & challenges fueled my passion to be a life long student in pursuit of learning how to create healthier lifestyles where one can thrive at their optimal best. As a mother of 3 children & a wife of a traveling husband, I quickly learned how to implement healthy habits on the go so that I could be my healthy best for my family. This has evolved into my health coaching business Thriving With Health where I coach people to integrate simple & fun healthy 'bitesā throughout their day even on their most busiest & challenging ones. You are never too busy to take care of your health & I can show you how. Everyone has busy lifestyles and living at their optimum best is not only doable but can be fun as well!
