Want to boost your health, energy, brain functioning and your skin too? Well there's a very simple solution ~ drink more water. Yes! It's as simple as that! We all know that but do you get enough water throughout your day?

Do you know how much water is contained in your body? Our bodies are composed approximately of 60% water, blood 90%, brain 75%, heart 73%, lungs 83%, skin 64%, muscles and kidneys 79%. Did you know that even your bones contain 31% water? I find this fasinating don't you? No wonder it's suggested to drink a glass of water when we have a headache which can be our body communicating to us that we need to hydrate.

Looking at these percentages helps us to realize just how important water is for our health and that we need to stay hydrated throughout the day. Even though we know we should drink our water it's easy to go about our daily activities and not give it much thought. Summer is an even more important time to stay hydrated during the hot summer months that can be even more dehydrating.

A simple and delicious way to enhance your water and motivate you and your family to drink more is to add fresh fruit, veggies and/or herbs that can boost the flavor and add healthy nutrients too. This can be a fun prep for your family, kids and grandchildren! They can learn how easy it is to make their own health boosting water crowding out sugar ladened and highly caffeinated unhealthy beverages in the process. I've included some combinations below to get you started. Enjoy the prep, be creative and enjoy💫

Apples ~ good source of fiber, Vitamin C and they contain polyphenols that can promote numerous health benefits

Berries ~ strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries  are high in antioxidants and can boost your immunity

Lemons and oranges ~ are high in vitamin C, help to alkalize the body and detoxify

Limes ~ can aid in digestion and detoxify

Peaches ~ high in Vitamin C

Pineapple ~ Aids in digestion

Pomegranate seeds ~ loaded with beneficial nutrients, 

Watermelon ~ High in antioxidants

Cilantro ~ Rids the body of heavy metals, lowers blood sugar, can lower anxiety, improve sleep and protect against cardiovascular disease

Cucumbers ~ hydrating, reduce inflammation, puffiness and bloating

Jalapeño ~ Vitamins A & C, potassium and antioxidants

Basil ~ anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial 

Mint ~ reduces inflammation and can calm the stomach

Rosemary ~ a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that can boost immunity

Ginger ~ anti-inflammatory, antioxidants and effective treating nausea

Fruit and Herb Infused Water

Prep: 10 minutes

30 minutes - 2+ hours set out at room temperature or refrigerated 

Total Time: 1+ hour(s) 

Ingredients

Here are some combinations  to get you started ~

Watermelon & Mint

Oranges, strawberries & basil or mint leaves

Pineapple, blueberries & mint leaves

Pineapple, lemon, lime & seeded jalapeños

Pomegranate seeds & green apples 

Blueberries, lemon & a sprig of rosemary

Strawberries & lime

Mango, ginger & raspberries

Strawberry, basil & lemon

Basil & blueberries

Cucumber & limes

Cucumber & lemon

Cucumber & mint

Cilantro & lime

Tart apple slices & fresh thinly sliced ginger

Apple slices and cinnamon sticks

Directions

In a pitcher combine the fruit/herb combination you desire and add water. Chill for at least 30 minutes ideally 2+ hours for more flavor.  Can be served with ice if preferred. Add additional fruit/herbs to garnish.

Note: Herbs can be strong in flavor so to avoid overpowering the flavor use just a little bit. You can always add more to taste.

Note: The same goes for jalapeños especially if you opt to include the seeds. A little goes a long way and the water will pick up the flavor and the heat quickly!

Most fruit and veggie infused water is good for 1-2 days. Basil can last 2-3 days and rosemary can last up to one week. 

The fruit/veggies can be eaten but the longer they infuse the water, the less taste they will retain.
