Do you know how much water is contained in your body? Our bodies are composed of 60%, blood is 90%, brain and heart are 73%, lungs 83%, skin is 64%, muscles and kidneys are 79%. Did you know that even your bones contain 31% water?
Looking at these percentages helps us to realize just how important water is for our health and that we need to stay hydrated throughout the day. Even though we know we should drink our water it's easy to go about our daily activities and not give it much thought. Summer is an even more important time to stay hydrated during the hot summer months that can be even more dehydrating.

A simply delicious way to enhance your water and motivate you and your family to drink more is to add fresh fruit and herbs that will boost the flavor and add healthy nutrients. This can be a fun activity for the whole family, kids and grandchildren too so they can learn how to make their own healthy water and encourage them away from sugary unhealthy beverages. I've included some combinations below to get you started. Have fun, be creative and enjoy💫
Apples ~ good source of fiber, Vitamin C and they contain polyphenols that can promote numerous health benefits
Berries ~ strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries are high in antioxidants and can boost your immunity
Lemons and oranges ~ are high in vitamin C, help to alkalize the body and detoxify
Limes ~ can aid in digestion and detoxify
Peaches ~ high in Vitamin C
Pineapple ~ Aid in digestion
Pomegranate seeds ~ loaded with beneficial nutrients,
Watermelon ~ high in antioxidants
Cucumbers ~ hydrating, reduce inflammation, puffiness and bloating
Jalapeño ~ Vitamins A & C, potassium and antioxidants
Basil ~ anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial
Mint ~ reduces inflammation and can calm the stomach
Rosemary ~ a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that can boost immunity

Prep: 10 minutes
Chill: 30 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
Ingredients
Here are some combinations to get you started ~
Watermelon & Mint
Oranges, strawberries & basil or mint leaves
Pineapple, blueberries & mint leaves
Pineapple, lemon, lime & seeded jalapeños
Pomegranate seeds & green apples
Blueberries, lemon & a sprig of rosemary
Strawberries & lime
Mango, ginger & raspberries
Strawberry, basil & lemon
Cucumber & lemon
Cucumber & mint
Directions
In a pitcher add the fruit/herb combination you like and add water. Chill for at least 30 minutes. Can be served with ice if preferred. Add additional fruit/herbs to garnish.
Note: Herbs can be strong in flavor so to avoid overpowering the flavor use just a little bit. You can always add more to taste.
Citrus and cucumber based water will last 2-3 days. Berries, apples, pineapple and seeds 1-2 days.
