Almond Butter Banana & Oatmeal Pet Treats

About Me
Once I started eating clean and learning about healthier recipe options, I began to read the labels on our pup's organic treats like I was on our family food. Thinking all was good buying these organic treats and paying a high price, I was totally shocked with what I found!
When I meet with clients we address reading labels from the beginning. I advise if there are more than 5 ingredients and you can't pronounce them PUT it back on the shelf immediately!
So I looked into making my own which I found to be a lot of fun and very easy to do. I also learned that some of the 'cleaner' pup recipies called for baking soda or powder and sweetners like honey and maple sugar which are NOT so great for your dogs. In small amounts probably ok but why bother? TWH is all about making it simple so we can implement easily.
If you're dog is not sensitive to wheat flour or peanuts feel free to substitute. I've also included an egg as an option which helps bind the ingredients resulting in a softer & chewier treat. The longer you bake will result in a harder treat as well.
Almond Butter Banana & Oatmeal Pet Treats
Preparation 5-10 minutes
Baking Time 10-15 minutes
Servings 20-25 (depending on size of cookie cutter(s) or less if dropping by spoonfuls)
Ingredients*
1 cup old fashion or quick oats if not rolling out or 1.5 cups if preferred grounded for rolling out (keep the 1/2 cup for rolling out)**
1 ripe banana
3 tbsps almond butter or nut butter of choice
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Optional
1 egg if your pup(s) not sensitive to them
Directions
Preheat oven 350º
Blend and mash all the ingredients together into a ball
**Using remaining oatmeal flour, sprinkle surface with a fine dust to roll your dough out on. Roll the dough out until 1/8 inch thick, cut out treats with favorite cookie cutters and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
Optional Time Saver
Omit rolling out & scoop out a rounded teaspoons size of dough and flatten with a fork on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
Bake for 10-15 minutes depending on how hard you like your treats to be. We like them soft enough to break into smaller pieces for training🐾
These treats can last up to a week in a sealed container (💗 mason jars). Since there aren't any preservatives they can grow some fur of their own especially on warm summer days. We like to store ours both in the freezer for long term & the refrigerator for upcoming use. They can eat them right out of the freezer too🐾
Our Lily waiting for hers💗🐾💗

About Me
My passion about health started in my teens when I first hand saw the effects of how illness can wreck havoc in a family growing up with parents who had serious health issues. I too struggled with losing weight & developed an eating disorder that I was able to heal by educating myself on healthier habits. It’s amazing what our bodies can do when we learn to take care of them like God intended. These experiences & challenges fueled my passion to be a life long student in pursuit of learning how to create healthier lifestyles where one can thrive at their optimal best. As a mother of 3 children & a wife of a traveling husband, I quickly learned how to implement healthy habits on the go so that I could be my healthy best for my family. This has evolved into my health coaching business Thriving With Health where I coach people to integrate simple & fun healthy 'bites’ throughout their day even on their most busiest & challenging ones. You are never too busy to take care of your health & I can show you how. Everyone has busy lifestyles and living at their optimum best is not only doable but can be fun as well!
